Side Effects Linked to Zocor®

Zocor® (simvastatin) has been linked to an increase in the risk of myopathy, a muscle disease characterized by unexplained and sometimes debilitating muscle pain. It has also been linked to rhabdomyolysis, a more serious form of the disease in which damaged muscle fibers break down and become released into the bloodstream.

Severe instances of rhabdomyolysis may result in death from acute kidney failure as the kidneys work overtime trying to rid the body of the damaged muscle fibers. Patients that are taking Zocor® should seek medical attention right away if they experience symptoms of rhabdomyolysis, including severe muscle aches, weakness and/or dark or cola-colored urine.

Simvastatin and other drugs in its class have also been associated with liver problems in some patients.
